File a one-time notice of intent with the NC Division of Non-Public Education (NCDNPE). Annual re-opening notice required.

Copy this, fill in the bracketed parts, and send it to the North Carolina state education agency. Keep a copy and proof of delivery (certified mail or an emailed PDF with a read receipt).

To whom it may concern:

In accordance with North Carolina’s home education law, I am writing to
notify you of my intent to provide home instruction for the child(ren)

What to include

Your name, address, and signature, and the date
Each student’s name, date of birth, and grade level
A clear statement of intent to provide home instruction under North Carolina law
The school year it covers
